Due to the high complexity of the advanced driver assistance (ADAS) testing of systems with environment perception an elaborate real test drive is not always either economically feasible or efficiently and safely repeatable. Vehicle-in-the-loop can accelerate development and deployment of ADAS functions combining the simulation of realistic arbitrary scenarios around a real ego-vehicle with a human driver. There is a high potential of cost saving reducing physical tools (vehicle dummies, differential gps systems, etc. etc….) traditionally used on test tracks, improving test frequency while reducing the required manpower to run it (given the way easier scenario staging capability). Moreover, safe subjective evaluation in an early development phase is guaranteed with a high number of parameterized test cases variation.
VIL has its main application on the right side of the V-cycle and along this presentation we will see how to reuse tests and models developed earlier in MIL and HIL with a final focus on bridging the gap on calibration and performance tests enhanced by virtual tools.
Electronic engineer with 6 years experience in AD/ADAS simulation, validation and verification.
After a first experience in semiconductor R&D, I moved into the automotive industry where I am currently gaining competencies and building my technical and professional path.
Involved in several projects for evaluation and validation of ADAS/AD system, above all can be mentioned: development of a MIL framework for NCAP active safety virtual assessment; sensor modelling and integration in SIL framework for AD system development and evaluation; VirtualECU generation and integration in SIL framework for ADAS applications.
