This presentation aims to explore the current state of autonomous vehicle safety and evaluate its progress towards achieving comparable safety levels to cars operated by human drivers. The presentation relies on a long-term study and analysis of performance metrics of robo-taxis obtained from California. By examining data from reported and unreported crashes, disengagements, and various crash types, we gain insights into the safety landscape of autonomous driving and can better determine the extent to which autonomous vehicles can match or exceed human driver safety.
